History & Architecture

The Lodge at Wakulla Springs preserves the original 1937 'land boom' era architecture with hand-painted cypress ceilings and a lobby that still shows The Creature from the Black Lagoon on loop. This Wakulla Springs hotel houses the only surviving Art Deco elevator in Florida still in daily operation. Guests can join ranger-led programs that detail the craftsmanship and history of the lodge, including the original building techniques and the lobby's hand-painted murals of Florida wildlife.
